Solar Fountain Accessories

If you own a solar fountain, there are a handful of fountain accessories you should be interested in. These range from the practical accessory to the “cool factor” of an accessory that enhances the look or functionality of your solar water fountain. Let’s take a look at a few of the more common accessories people like to use.

Fountain Lighting. Adding some lights to the fountain can make for a fantastic looking set-up. This can mean anything from expensive mounted lights that shine brightly up at the cascading water, or something more down to earth, such as solar garden lighting that will keep alight theoretically as long as the water keeps pumping after dark, assuming both of them are powered at the same rate and have similar solar capacities. For those who are keen on keeping things green, it’s pretty neat to add green solar garden lighting to accentuate your solar fountain!

Another point to mention in regards to lighting is that you don’t have to just stick with “normal” lights. Garden decor companies sell light kits consisting of 2-4 different colored lights that can put on quite a display of your fountain! One simple trick to doing this cheaply is so obvious you’ll be mad if you’ve already bought expensive colored lights. Simply buy some normal priced lights, and then install colored lense covers over them! This will change the light to whatever color the lense is. Additionally, you get the perk of having your normal lights back simply by removing the colored lense.

Outdoor Timer. Adding a timer to your fountain means you won’t be running it all the time. It conserves energy and for the solar models, that means you get to use the solar reserves when you want to, not when they necessarily are just “there”, ready to be used. Having an outdoor timer installed onto your solar fountain means you get the maximum benefit of the solar powered fountain. The only problem is that many timers need a traditional source of power, and who wants to run a cord out to the solar powered fountain to turn of its solar powered lights?

Cleaning Accessories. Now just about any fountain manufacturer is going to say that their fountain is self-sustaining and requires no maintenance, but a little common sense dictates that you still need to clean it and maintain it. Luckily, this is neither expensive nor time consuming using a few choice cleaning products. Using a liquid based cleaner often means just pouring a capful or two into the fountain. The rest takes of itself!

Frogger pads. Now who wouldn’t crack a smile seeing a frog hanging out on your solar fountain? All it usually takes to motivate them is buying a few frogger pads that give them a place to hang out. Of course, if you’ve converted your bird bath into a fountain, you probably don’t want the birds and frogs fighting for real estate, but otherwise, this accessory is very clever and fun!

Besides giving you a means of cleaning the fountain, these accessories offer a way to get more value and enjoyment from your solar fountain. I hope you’ve found something on this list to add to your water fountain!
